Bono, from the band U2, penned these words that became Yahweh, the eleventh track on their 2004 album, How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb:
Take these shoes
Click clacking down some dead end street
Take these shoes
And make them fit
Take this shirt
Polyester white trash made in nowhere
Take this shirt
And make it clean, clean
Take this soul
Stranded in some skin and bones
Take this soul
And make it sing
Yahweh, Yahweh
Always pain before a child is born
Yahweh, Yahweh
Still I’m waiting for the dawn
Then he goes on to write:
Take these hands … take this mouth …
While recording in the studio, the U2 band members all agreed that Yahweh “was one of those songs that had to be written”. There is no doubt in my mind that Bono was (consciously or subconsciously) thinking about the words of the great hymn written by Francis Havergal, Take My Life and Let It Be. This is why, on our instrumental rendition of Yahweh, we make reference to the original hymn:
Take my life and let it be
Consecrated, Lord, to Thee.
Take my moments and my days,
Let them flow in endless praise.
Take my hands and let them move
At the impulse of Thy love.
Take my feet and let them be
Swift and beautiful for Thee.
Take my voice and let me sing,
Always, only for my King.
Take my lips and let them be
Filled with messages from Thee.
Take my silver and my gold,
Not a mite would I withhold.
Take my intellect and use
Every pow’r as Thou shalt choose.
Take my will and make it Thine,
It shall be no longer mine.
Take my heart, it is Thine own,
It shall be Thy royal throne.
Take my love, my Lord, I pour
At Thy feet its treasure store.
Take myself and I will be
Ever, only, all for Thee.

The Flyingbow Ministry team and I would like to congratulate George Seara for his Juno win last night for Recording Engineer of the Year! Richard Cleaver, Brad Toews and I had the honour of working with him at Phase One Studios in the Mastering of our 2010 Canadian GMA Covenant Award winning CD release of YAHWEH. You can read my original blog posting here. George played a integral role in the final sound and success of this project. He is not just a great engineer but also a really nice guy! Here are a few pictures of George “in action” at Phase One. Until next time. T

It was truly an honour last month to hear that YAHWEH was nominated for 5 Canadian GMA Covenant Awards in the following categories:
1. CD/DVD Artwork Design of the Year
2. Jazz/Blues Song of the Year (The Path)
3. Instrumental Song of the Year (Passion)
4. Instrumental Album of the Year
5. Classical – Traditional Song of the Year (Interlude: The Calling)
Well … while wrapping up the 8-Day Robin Mark Tour, we learned the good news last Friday evening that YAHWEH took home two of these awards:
Instrumental Album of the Year
Instrumental Song of the Year – “Passion”
Unfortunately, I was not able to attend the awards ceremony in person, but Elizabeth and Kip Sharpe attended in my place as representatives of the Flyingbow Board of Directors. Here are the speeches they read in Calgary:
Instrumental Song of the Year – “Passion” :: Kip Sharpe, Director of Ministry Partnerships with Flyingbow made this speech:
Trevor Dick could not represent Flyingbow Music Ministry tonight because he is on the 7th night of an 8-day tour with Robin Mark in Ontario. My name is Kip Sharpe and I am the Director of Ministry Partnerships with Flyingbow of which Trevor is an artist. Flyingbow Music Ministry is a not for profit organization that missions the gospel to Canada and around the world though its music missionaries of which Trevor is one. This year we were awarded charitable status which sets us up to do more mission work through partnerships with other artists who desire to become part of Flyingbow. Passion was written as a heart cry of the things in life that drive us – those things that God has given us a uncontainable passion for – that we keep this burning flame alive and stay true to His will and desire for us in our art. Flyingbow Music Ministry, Trevor Dick and the Creative Team would like to thank the Gospel Music Association for the honour of this award.
Instrumental Album of the Year :: Elizabeth Sharpe, chair of the Flyingbow Board made this speech:
Trevor would like to recognize the great team that made this album possible: The 5th String Blvd. Band members: Steve Heathcote (drums and percussion), Will Jarvis (bass), Brad Toews (keyboards) and Corey Lacey (guitar); The Creative Team: Richard Cleaver (Recording Engineer), Phase One Recording Studios, Tina Newlove (Artist), Joe Stevens (Graphic Design) and the Flyingbow Ministry Board of Directors for their wisdom and support. The creative process of producing this album was truly amazing. We give all the praise and Glory to Yahweh, the eternal, indescribable God and master Artist who spun this universe into motion and gave us these gifts to give back to Him.
You can see the complete list of winners of the Canadian GMA Covenant Awards here. It is a real blessing to be recognized by the Gospel Music Association in this way.
Until next time, ><> Trevor

It is that time once more to give you an update on Flyingbow Music Ministry. As I write, we are gearing up for the 2009 “Glory and Peace” Christmas Tour which will stay closer to home this time around in beautiful Ontario. We will be playing in the following city centers: Guelph, London, Port Perry, Burlington, Belleville, Parry Sound, Sudbury, Ottawa and Kitchener. We have great memories of our tour last year to New Brunswick and P.E.I. We hope to take it to western Canada perhaps in 2010.
Here are a few important bullet updates on Flyingbow:
PARTNERSHIP WITH COMPASSION …
• I joined fellow Compassion Music Artist, Geoff Moore at my home church of Lakeside in Guelph last weekend (Nov. 15/09) for an exciting Compassion Sunday Event. It was an awesome day. You can view the video footage of the full service below. Over 180 children were sponsored at this special event – a great morning!
I want to thank all of you who have made the sacrifices this year to sponsor a child through Compassion Canada. You are making an incredible difference in your “adopted” child’s life not only now, but for eternity. Remember to take the time to write letters to your child. They are treasured. As a Compassion Artist, Compassion is a big part of what I do in this Music Missionary Ministry. To sponsor a child today, link to: http://www.compassion.ca
NEW CD UPDATE …
• As many of you know, this Fall the Band and I entered Phase One Recording Studio A, one of Canada’s finest recording facilities, for a week of tracking the next Flyingbow CD Project entitled “Yahweh”, engineered by Richard Cleaver. Hundreds of hours have been spent thus far on recording, mixing and editing. A mastering date has been set for Dec. 11 (also at Phase One – Studio C ) with George Seara whose recent clients include Rihanna, Mos Def, Holly Cole, 50 Cent, Sting, Herbie Hancock and Finger Eleven. We have certainly raised the bar on the quality of this album. Again, I am blessed to work with some of the finest musicians in the country: Steve Heathcote (Drums and Percussion), Will Jarvis (acoustic and electric Bass), Corey Lacey (acoustic and electric Guitar) and Brad Toews (Piano and Keyboards).
• We are very excited about the imminent release of the “Yahweh” CD Project – it is coming together very nicely but has taken a little longer to complete than first anticipated … as someone said, “you just can’t rush a good thing” … So, we are anticipate a CD release date of the first week of January with coinciding “Yahweh” Concert Tour Dates through 2010.
* For a rare preview of the fresh “Yahweh” arrangements, we encourage you to attend the “Yahweh” CD preview Concert this coming Friday, Nov. 27/09 at Lakeside Church in support of International Missions. Details on the Flyingbow Event Calendar.

I just posted some new pics in a slide show of the “Yahweh” CD Project recording process on my Flickr account (from the start of writing and arranging in my home studio, to recording bed tracks at Phase One Studio A in Toronto, to overdubs at Whisperwood Studios in Kingston). Access it here. Until next time! T

The outdoor “Yahweh” pre-CD release concert in Waterloo was lot’s of fun this past weekend. It is always rewarding to take new songs to the people LIVE and see the response – especially after months in the studio! I enjoyed meeting some new Nigerian friends after the event. They recently immigrated to Canada to pursue their education. We played the West African styled song “Iyale” in our set, my place of birth in Nigeria, to give our friends a musical taste of home.

I head off to Kingston again to track at Richard Cleaver’s today. Here is a clip of a new compositon called “Passion” that will debut on the “Yahweh” CD to give you an idea of the space we are working in for this phase of the recording. Richard has a temporary control room and recording area set up until his new studio is built (read more here from Richard). We plan to finish the bulk of my violin tracking over the long weekend. We continue to appreciate your prayers and support.

I am very pleased and excited to announce that award winning artist and painter, Tina Newlove, has been commissioned to do the artwork for the new “Yahweh” CD Project. I really appreciate her art (the humanity and the Divine in it).
I met with Tina yesterday to give her a CD (a rough music mix) and discuss the concept of the project and ideas for the commissioned painting. While listening to the music, she will paint with acrylic and oil to depict “Yahweh” using the following working definition:
“to be, to become … the Eternal, self-existent “I AM” who brings all things into being. Master, sovereign Ruler, and covenant-keeping Mighty God, the One that was, that is, that is to come”.
Many of you will remember Tina from the Glory and Peace Tour where she portrayed each concert through her amazing live performance painting. It is such an honour to partner with her on this new project. This is a creative departure from the typical CD artwork and will make this new project a real “art-piece” beyond the music.
With Tina Newlove in December 2008 after a Glory and Peace concert in Toronto with her live performance “depiction” of that evening’s event.

Last week’s bed track sessions at Phase One feel a bit like a dream. We had a great final two days tracking the overdubs of bass and percussion on day’s 4 and 5. We more than met our goals. I am very pleased with the results so far – a beautiful warm sound and excellent playing from each band member.
This week I have been catching up on time with the family, teaching a little, doing some Flyingbow office work, setting up a few meetings and in the spaces thinking through the concept of the new album. We are leaning towards the title, “Yahweh” (The Eternal, self-existent “I AM” who brings all things into being) for this new CD and leaning towards a departure on the album graphics (more on this later).
Next on our list is to track the guitar overdubs, keyboards and of course my violin over the next month. I will be taking trips to Kingston to track the violin parts in Richard Cleaver’s home studio/control room.
