Today’s Final Two Free Christmas Downloads :: “Little Drummer Boy” and “O Holy Night”

Happy Christmas Eve!

On this eve of Christmas 2010, I leave you with two final complementary downloads – one from each of the double Glory & Peace CD set: O Holy Night from PEACE and Little Drummer Boy from GLORY. As I post these, I have been reflecting on the words of these classic carols and a few verses from the Bible that I encourage you to read and apply to your lives where you are at today:

She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins. All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel” (which means “God with us”). (Matt. 1:20-23 – NIV)

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. (Hebrews 12:1-2 -NIV)

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30 – NIV)

Glory to God in the heavenly heights, Peace to all men and women on earth who please him” (Luke 2:14 – Message)

When we celebrate the birth of Jesus, we must not forget the real reason why Jesus came. He did not come to create a nice Christian holiday called Christmas for us to give and receive presents and drink eggnog- although this is all really nice. He came to live a radical, counter cultural, anti-religious life of love and servant hood. This was displayed in every part of His time on earth from His humble, quiet birth into poverty to his scandalous life as a leader of a group of misfit disciples, to His constant challenges of the “religious leaders” of His day. The reality is, He WAS Immanuel “God with us” and we passed Him by and nailed Him on a cross. This Christmas and this coming New Year I have resolved to know this Jesus better: the one that would show such love and grace that He would go to the cross for me. I admire this man. I want to pattern my life after Him. I want to take His “yoke upon me” and “learn from Him”. I believe He was who He claimed to be: the Son the living God: The “King of Glory” and bringer of true Peace! I want to “fix my eyes on Him” and make Him my focus each day.

Little Drummer Boy
Come they told me … Our newborn King to see … Our finest gifts we bringTo lay before the King … So to honor Him … When we come …

Little Baby … I am a poor boy too … I have no gift to bring … To lay before the King … Shall I play for you … On my drum?…

Mary nodded … The ox and lamb kept time … I played my drum for Him … I played my best for Him Then He smiled at me … Me and my drum…

O Holy Night
O holy night, the stars are brightly shining; it is the night of the dear Savior’s birth! Long lay the world in sin and error pining, till He appeared and the soul felt its worth. A thrill of hope, the weary soul rejoices, for yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.

Led by the light of faith serenely beaming, with glowing hearts by His cradle we stand. So led by light of a star sweetly gleaming, here came the wise men from Orient land. The King of kings lay thus in lowly manger, in all our trials born to be our friend!

Truly He taught us to love one another; His law is love and His Gospel is peace. Chains shall He break for the slave is our brother and in His Name all oppression shall cease. Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we, let all within us praise His holy name!

Fall on your knees, O hear the angel voices! O night divine, O night when Christ was born! O night, O holy night, O night divine!

HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY TOMORROW!  Take some time away from the busyness of the day to thank Jesus for what He has done. May we all truly experience the reality of His  Glory & Peace this Christmas and into 2011. May we give Him our all!

YAHWEH receives 2 Canadian GMA Covenant Awards

It was truly an honour last month to hear that YAHWEH was nominated for 5 Canadian GMA Covenant Awards in the following categories:

1. CD/DVD Artwork Design of the Year
2. Jazz/Blues Song of the Year (The Path)
3. Instrumental Song of the Year (Passion)
4. Instrumental Album of the Year
5. Classical – Traditional Song of the Year (Interlude: The Calling)

Well … while wrapping up the 8-Day Robin Mark Tour, we learned the good news last Friday evening  that YAHWEH took home two of these awards:

Instrumental Album of the Year
Instrumental Song of the Year  – “Passion”

Unfortunately, I was not able to attend the awards ceremony in person, but Elizabeth and Kip Sharpe attended in my place as representatives of the Flyingbow Board of Directors. Here are the speeches they read in Calgary:

Instrumental Song of the Year  – “Passion” :: Kip Sharpe, Director of Ministry Partnerships with Flyingbow made this speech:

Trevor Dick could not represent Flyingbow Music Ministry tonight because he is on the 7th night of an 8-day tour with Robin Mark in Ontario. My name is Kip Sharpe and I am the Director of Ministry Partnerships with Flyingbow of which Trevor is an artist. Flyingbow Music Ministry is a not for profit organization that missions the gospel to Canada and around the world though its music missionaries of which Trevor is one. This year we were awarded charitable status which sets us up to do more mission work through partnerships with other artists who desire to become part of Flyingbow. Passion was written as a heart cry of the things in life that drive us – those things that God has given us a uncontainable passion for – that we keep this burning flame alive and stay true to His will and desire for us in our art.  Flyingbow Music Ministry, Trevor Dick and the Creative Team would like to thank the Gospel Music Association for the honour of this award.

Instrumental Album of the Year :: Elizabeth Sharpe, chair of the Flyingbow Board made this speech:

Trevor would like to recognize the great team that made this album possible: The 5th String Blvd. Band members: Steve Heathcote (drums and percussion), Will Jarvis (bass), Brad Toews (keyboards) and Corey Lacey (guitar); The Creative Team: Richard Cleaver (Recording Engineer), Phase One Recording Studios, Tina Newlove (Artist), Joe Stevens (Graphic Design) and the Flyingbow Ministry Board of Directors for their wisdom and support. The creative process of producing this album was truly amazing. We give all the praise and Glory to Yahweh, the eternal, indescribable God and master Artist who spun this universe into motion and gave us these gifts to give back to Him.

You can see the complete list of winners of the Canadian GMA Covenant Awards here. It is a real blessing to be recognized by the Gospel Music Association in this way.

Until next time,  ><>  Trevor

Latest FRONTLINE “Flyingbow News” from Trevor

Dear Friends and Supporters,

It is that time once more to give you an update on Flyingbow Music Ministry. As I write, we are gearing up for the 2009 “Glory and Peace” Christmas Tour which will stay closer to home this time around in beautiful Ontario. We will be playing in the following city centers: Guelph, London, Port Perry, Burlington, Belleville, Parry Sound, Sudbury, Ottawa and Kitchener. We have great memories of our tour last year to New Brunswick and P.E.I. We hope to take it to western Canada perhaps in 2010.

Here are a few important bullet updates on Flyingbow:

PARTNERSHIP WITH COMPASSION …

• I  joined fellow Compassion Music Artist, Geoff Moore at my home church of Lakeside in Guelph last weekend (Nov. 15/09)  for an exciting Compassion Sunday Event. It was an awesome day. You can view the video footage of the full service below. Over 180 children were sponsored at this special event – a great morning!

I want to thank all of you who have made the sacrifices this year to sponsor a child through Compassion Canada. You are making an incredible difference in your “adopted” child’s life not only now, but for eternity. Remember to take the time to write letters to your child. They are treasured. As a Compassion Artist, Compassion is a big part of what I do in this Music Missionary Ministry. To sponsor a child today, link to: http://www.compassion.ca

NEW CD UPDATE …

• As many of you know, this Fall the Band and I entered Phase One Recording Studio A, one of Canada’s finest recording facilities, for a week of tracking the next Flyingbow CD Project entitled  “Yahweh”, engineered by Richard Cleaver. Hundreds of hours have been spent thus far on recording, mixing and editing. A mastering date has been set for Dec. 11 (also at Phase One – Studio C ) with George Seara whose recent clients include Rihanna, Mos Def, Holly Cole, 50 Cent, Sting, Herbie Hancock and Finger Eleven. We have certainly raised the bar on the quality of this album. Again, I am blessed to work with some of the finest musicians in the country: Steve Heathcote (Drums and Percussion), Will Jarvis (acoustic and electric Bass), Corey Lacey (acoustic and electric Guitar) and Brad Toews (Piano and Keyboards).

• We are very excited about the imminent release of the  “Yahweh” CD Project – it is coming together very nicely but has taken a little longer to complete than first anticipated … as someone said, “you just can’t rush a good thing” … So, we are anticipate a CD release date of the first week of January with coinciding  “Yahweh” Concert Tour Dates through 2010.

* For a rare preview of the fresh “Yahweh” arrangements, we encourage you to attend the “Yahweh” CD preview Concert this coming Friday, Nov. 27/09 at Lakeside Church in support of International Missions. Details on the Flyingbow Event Calendar.

Yesterday was a very productive Day 2 at Phase One Studios. We layed down the bed tracks of four more songs: “Yahweh”, “Passion”, “The Path” and “My Jesus, I Love Thee”. We plan to track 3 more songs today. Later this afternoon we will also be creating a live drum loop for “This I Know” and rehearsing a fresh version of “Everlasting God”. We are having a blast!

This email just went out to all the friends and supporters of Flyingbow … also posted here on my blog in a more interactive environment.

As I write, I am excited to be going into Phase One Studios this coming Monday to start recording the next CD Project with the Band. We have been hard at work rehearsing for this coming week of tracking – all brand new, exciting material that we cannot wait to perform live.

2nd Leg of East Coast Tour Starts Tomorrow

This week sure has flown by … I have spent the majority of the last few hours getting ready to head out for the 2nd leg of the East Coast Tour. I am going to miss Le-Anne and the three boys over the next 13 days in New Brunswick while on tour with the band.

img_6646.jpg

I was greeted home on Monday by this partially melted snow man built by Aaron and Liam …

img_6647.jpg

Love the detail in the face …

We pulled the boys out of school (yes, it’s ok. to do that once in a while!) to spend more time together today … went out for breakfast at “Angel’s” one of our favorite local Guelph Diner’s … then we went to the Woodlawn Bowl to bowl a couple of games as a family … lot’s of fun. The afternoon was spent picking up a new banner for my product table, doing some office work, packing, etc … then just before supper (Le-Anne surprised me with an amazing roast beef dinner) the boys and I went for a short x-country ski to our local park. A really great day 🙂

img_5071.jpg

X-country skiing last year … Liam loves to “wipe out” …

Corey, Steve and Will – members of the band, board the Air Canada flight home from Moncton after the 1st leg of the East Coast Tour …

Our flight leaves for Moncton once more at 8 a.m. tomorrow. May God bless the rest of this tour and may He have his hand upon each of our families. Until next time …  TD <><

On the road again … Touring season has started!

My performance concert schedule is starting to ramp up as we move through the fall and approach the Christmas season. Corey Lacey (guitarist extraordinaire) has been joining me for many of my concert ministry engagements. It is always great to partner with him for more of a live, creative, interactive feel. We have a really cool vibe happening. He is a real brother (musically and spiritually)! I also really appreciate his support in driving those long distances, helping with the gear and product table. We hit the road again this coming Saturday evening for an early 7:30 a.m. sound-check in Cobourg, Ontario on Sunday morning, Oct 19. Then Oct. 24-26 we will be in Fredericton and St. John, New Brunswick (opening for Paul Colman of the Newsboys) and November 1-2 will find us in Belleville, Ontario. Link to my calendar for more info on these dates …

Live Studio Tracking for a Canadian Tire Gig

We brought the band together last week to do some live off the floor studio tracking at ADS Media just outside of Hamilton. I have done a fair bit of recording for Ken Vandevrie, president of ADS Media on acoustic violin over the last few years. One of our first recordings together was Dan Macaulay’s “Captured Again” CD. ADS also did all the production on my 2006 “Flyingbow – Up Close” DVD Release.

On this session last week, however, we tracked a medley of 5 traditional Celtic songs that we will be performing live this Saturday at the Toronto Convention Center for an annual Canadian Tire Banquet. Ken needed a recording to give to a troupe of Celtic dancers who will be joining us for the Canadian Tire gig. Ken’s newly renovated studio is a one-stop media design and development company that delivers excellent, affordable work across three major disciplines: Audio, Video, and Design. Canadian Tire is one of his esteemed clients.

You can download the new Celtic Medley here for free! It was recorded live off the floor – has not been mixed or mastered so keep this in mind …

ADS Media - Main Control Room

Ken, Corey and Will in the ADS Media Control Room

I really enjoy studio recording. It is great challenge. As I record, I am often asked to do a combination of playing by ear, reading charts and creating on the spot arrangements and multi tracking where I lay down multiple violin lines to create the feeling of a full orchestra. A great trick many producers do (on a budget) is lay down string lines from a keyboard using sampled strings, then add my real violin sound to the mix. This tricks the ear into thinking that the whole orchestral line is real.
