“In the Bleak Mid Winter” :: Today’s Free Download.

PEACE :: “In The Bleak Mid Winter” http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/trevordick5

This has got to be one of the most beautiful Christmas songs ever written (a favorite of mine) with a powerful message:

In the bleak midwinter, frosty wind made moan,
Earth stood hard as iron, water like a stone;
Snow had fallen, snow on snow, snow on snow,
In the bleak midwinter, long ago.

Our God, Heaven cannot hold Him, nor earth sustain;
Heaven and earth shall flee away when He comes to reign.
In the bleak midwinter a stable place sufficed
The Lord God Almighty, Jesus Christ.

What can I give Him, poor as I am?
If I were a shepherd, I would bring a lamb;
If I were a Wise Man, I would do my part;
Yet what I can I give Him: give my heart.

May each of us give Him our hearts and lives. Have a fantastic “winter” day!

Trevor

YAHWEH receives 2 Canadian GMA Covenant Awards

It was truly an honour last month to hear that YAHWEH was nominated for 5 Canadian GMA Covenant Awards in the following categories:

1. CD/DVD Artwork Design of the Year
2. Jazz/Blues Song of the Year (The Path)
3. Instrumental Song of the Year (Passion)
4. Instrumental Album of the Year
5. Classical – Traditional Song of the Year (Interlude: The Calling)

Well … while wrapping up the 8-Day Robin Mark Tour, we learned the good news last Friday evening  that YAHWEH took home two of these awards:

Instrumental Album of the Year
Instrumental Song of the Year  – “Passion”

Unfortunately, I was not able to attend the awards ceremony in person, but Elizabeth and Kip Sharpe attended in my place as representatives of the Flyingbow Board of Directors. Here are the speeches they read in Calgary:

Instrumental Song of the Year  – “Passion” :: Kip Sharpe, Director of Ministry Partnerships with Flyingbow made this speech:

Trevor Dick could not represent Flyingbow Music Ministry tonight because he is on the 7th night of an 8-day tour with Robin Mark in Ontario. My name is Kip Sharpe and I am the Director of Ministry Partnerships with Flyingbow of which Trevor is an artist. Flyingbow Music Ministry is a not for profit organization that missions the gospel to Canada and around the world though its music missionaries of which Trevor is one. This year we were awarded charitable status which sets us up to do more mission work through partnerships with other artists who desire to become part of Flyingbow. Passion was written as a heart cry of the things in life that drive us – those things that God has given us a uncontainable passion for – that we keep this burning flame alive and stay true to His will and desire for us in our art.  Flyingbow Music Ministry, Trevor Dick and the Creative Team would like to thank the Gospel Music Association for the honour of this award.

Instrumental Album of the Year :: Elizabeth Sharpe, chair of the Flyingbow Board made this speech:

Trevor would like to recognize the great team that made this album possible: The 5th String Blvd. Band members: Steve Heathcote (drums and percussion), Will Jarvis (bass), Brad Toews (keyboards) and Corey Lacey (guitar); The Creative Team: Richard Cleaver (Recording Engineer), Phase One Recording Studios, Tina Newlove (Artist), Joe Stevens (Graphic Design) and the Flyingbow Ministry Board of Directors for their wisdom and support. The creative process of producing this album was truly amazing. We give all the praise and Glory to Yahweh, the eternal, indescribable God and master Artist who spun this universe into motion and gave us these gifts to give back to Him.

You can see the complete list of winners of the Canadian GMA Covenant Awards here. It is a real blessing to be recognized by the Gospel Music Association in this way.

Until next time,  ><>  Trevor

Latest FRONTLINE “Flyingbow News” from Trevor

Dear Friends and Supporters,

It is that time once more to give you an update on Flyingbow Music Ministry. As I write, we are gearing up for the 2009 “Glory and Peace” Christmas Tour which will stay closer to home this time around in beautiful Ontario. We will be playing in the following city centers: Guelph, London, Port Perry, Burlington, Belleville, Parry Sound, Sudbury, Ottawa and Kitchener. We have great memories of our tour last year to New Brunswick and P.E.I. We hope to take it to western Canada perhaps in 2010.

Here are a few important bullet updates on Flyingbow:

PARTNERSHIP WITH COMPASSION …

• I  joined fellow Compassion Music Artist, Geoff Moore at my home church of Lakeside in Guelph last weekend (Nov. 15/09)  for an exciting Compassion Sunday Event. It was an awesome day. You can view the video footage of the full service below. Over 180 children were sponsored at this special event – a great morning!

I want to thank all of you who have made the sacrifices this year to sponsor a child through Compassion Canada. You are making an incredible difference in your “adopted” child’s life not only now, but for eternity. Remember to take the time to write letters to your child. They are treasured. As a Compassion Artist, Compassion is a big part of what I do in this Music Missionary Ministry. To sponsor a child today, link to: http://www.compassion.ca

NEW CD UPDATE …

• As many of you know, this Fall the Band and I entered Phase One Recording Studio A, one of Canada’s finest recording facilities, for a week of tracking the next Flyingbow CD Project entitled  “Yahweh”, engineered by Richard Cleaver. Hundreds of hours have been spent thus far on recording, mixing and editing. A mastering date has been set for Dec. 11 (also at Phase One – Studio C ) with George Seara whose recent clients include Rihanna, Mos Def, Holly Cole, 50 Cent, Sting, Herbie Hancock and Finger Eleven. We have certainly raised the bar on the quality of this album. Again, I am blessed to work with some of the finest musicians in the country: Steve Heathcote (Drums and Percussion), Will Jarvis (acoustic and electric Bass), Corey Lacey (acoustic and electric Guitar) and Brad Toews (Piano and Keyboards).

• We are very excited about the imminent release of the  “Yahweh” CD Project – it is coming together very nicely but has taken a little longer to complete than first anticipated … as someone said, “you just can’t rush a good thing” … So, we are anticipate a CD release date of the first week of January with coinciding  “Yahweh” Concert Tour Dates through 2010.

* For a rare preview of the fresh “Yahweh” arrangements, we encourage you to attend the “Yahweh” CD preview Concert this coming Friday, Nov. 27/09 at Lakeside Church in support of International Missions. Details on the Flyingbow Event Calendar.

A Productive Day 2 and the Start of Day 3

Yesterday was a very productive Day 2 at Phase One Studios. We layed down the bed tracks of four more songs: “Yahweh”, “Passion”, “The Path” and “My Jesus, I Love Thee”. We plan to track 3 more songs today. Later this afternoon we will also be creating a live drum loop for “This I Know” and rehearsing a fresh version of “Everlasting God”. We are having a blast!

[NEWS] FLYINGBOW UPDATE – New CD in the Works

This email just went out to all the friends and supporters of Flyingbow … also posted here on my blog in a more interactive environment.

Dear Friends and Supporters,

It has been a little while since I last gave an update on the Flyingbow Music Ministry. As I write, I am excited to be going into Phase One Studios this coming Monday to start recording the next CD Project with the Band. We have been hard at work rehearsing for this coming week of tracking – all brand new, exciting material that we cannot wait to perform live.

More “Glory and Peace” Christmas Productions are scheduled for November and December 2009 so keep your eyes open for those.

• We are happy to announce that the original song, “Glory”, from the 2007 “Glory and Peace” Christmas CD project has been nominated for the 2009 International “Just Plain Folks Award” for Seasonal Song of the Year.

Progress Update on the New CD Project …

Some of you have been asking how progress on the new CD Project is going … here is a little update.

We have been brainstorming up a concept and list of songs for the new project … here is the list of songs we started with (if you can read my “chicken scratching”!). We have cut some from this page already, but this will give you an idea of the process.

img_0523

I want the album to have a cool, modern vibe (like “Glory“) that explores beautiful, simple melodies (rich in meaning) in world music styles, rhythms and instrumentation for a growing multi-cultural audience. My audience as you know is mainly “the Church” (internationally) so the songs we select needs to speak to that audience. The beauty of old and new “hymns” is that the album will have a timeless quality that will cause it to have a much longer shelf-life (like the “Glory and Peace” Christmas album).  The messages of the songs also need to be a good fit with Compassion and my ever growing, exciting partnership with them.

Brad Toews (keys) and I had a very productive, fun weekend (May 14-17/09) writing and fleshing out some arrangement and concept ideas. We are using Apple’s Logic Express on my iMac as a recording platform. From this I will be able to print out charts for the band to work from – all within the Logic software. Brad is flying out again from his home town of Halifax on the weekend of June 18-21 to continue this process.

Here are some shots of Brad and I in my new rehearsal and pre-production studio in May:

img_06371

To view more pics click here.

On June 22, we have a full band rehearsal planned for each player’s input and creative genius. I am very excited about starting this next step in the crafting process. This full band approach early on in the arranging works extremely well for us (as we saw in the success of “Glory”) in breathing life, ownership and authenticity into the music.

Until next time … T

East Coast Tour – New Brunswick – Day 6

The band and I leave for Moncton in a few hours to get ready for performance #2 of 8 of “The Living Christmas Tree – The Cradle that Rocked the World” at Moncton Wesleyan Church. The size and scope of this production is truly amazing. As of three days ago, already well over ten thousand tickets have been sold!

Here are a few pics from the opening night …

img_6652.jpg

img_6654.jpg

img_6657.jpg

The last few days have been very restful in this little lakeside paradise at Lakeview Inn  in New Horton, New Brunswick. We are recharged and ready to go for the next intensive leg of this tour.  It sure is great to have Brad Toews (keys) with the band again – a true brother and friend … He has moved to Halifax with his family … this East Coast opportunity has enabled him to join the band once more so it has been a great reunion.The rest has enabled me to get back into a good exercise routine … running, core body work on the physio ball and lot’s of stretching.  My quiet times have been equally refreshing. Before I go, I want to share a couple of verses that have been a challenge and encouragement:

Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; He’s the one who will keep you on track … (Prov. 3:6)

“Blessed the man, blessed the woman, who listens to Me [God Wisdom], awake and ready for me each morning, alert and responsive as I start my day’s work. When you find Me, you find life, real life … (Prov. 8:34-35)

“Suddenly, God’s Angel stood among them and God’s Glory blazed around them. They were terrified. the Angel said, don’t be afraid. I’m here to announce a great and joyful event that is meant for everybody, worldwideGlory to God in the heavenly heights, peace to all men and women on earth who please Him … Let’s get over to Bethlehem as fast as we can and see for ourselves what God has revealed to us. They left running, and found Mary and Joseph, and the Baby lying in the manger. Seeing was believing. They told everyone they met …”

May we truly listen and be alert and responsive to God’s voice in all we do and wherever we are. His revelation is right in front of us. As we approach this beautiful Christmas season, may we see Him in His Glory and Peace in a fresh way. May we run to that “manger” and be spurred on to tell others … TD
